working to rest

I know my blog is coming in later than normal tonight. . . .why is it later than normal? because i have been up late cleaning....deep serious spring cleaning.....why am i cleaning? because i am going away.

Does that make sense to anybody?

me neither. Yet i did it.

It's so illogical, really.

I am exhausted. Its been a busy year work wise, with almost not chance for leave or rest. I am desperate for rest. . . so i am exceptionally grateful for the opportunity to not only take this long weekend but also to go away and get some rest.

So why is it, despite my exhaustion, i add to my work load chores and things i dont have the energy for and arent a necessity because i am going away? i do have someone coming to stay in my house. but they are a friend. and my house is clean enough to live in comfortably. . . so why is it i suddenly feel the urge to unpack and clean and repack cupboards that this person isnt going to open. . . or clean window sills that this person wouldn't notice?

By the end of it i will be way more exhausted and not able to fully enjoy my rest anyway. . . .and for what? but we all do it, dont we? we all strive in our rest. . . we strive to try have things perfect and in order before we go on our rest. . . we strive in planning the details of our rest and making sure our rest time goes to plan etc. . . we make rest work.

But if you look at the first time rest happened in the bible, it was in creation and God rested. He ceased to work. . . it was a principle also carried on into the concept of the Sabbath. And remember as we stated before, the Sabbath was made to meet the needs of the people. God knows we need rest. . .we need to not just accept and acknowledge we need it....but we need to stop striving to get it and striving in it....

So i am going to bed, even though my floors need mopping. . . .and i am going to

Stop!

Pause!

Exhale!

Rest.

and i encourage you all to do the same.

goodnight.
